  • I often take criticism for my music, and it seems like when i go against the criticism and do something abstract that maybe i'll only enjoy, the music is more sincere, and i seem to get lost in it more.

i'm not going against it because i'm some sort of "Non conformist", i just believe that its useless to pick on other peoples art, because an artist can't really control what they're inspired by, and therefore can't control they're art.

but i don't really think art is something to be controlled.

  • @RueArsins very incitefull. i agree completely that. thank you for sharing.

"i dont really think art is something to be controlled."

if only more realized this and so many other things aren't meant to be controlled! and in fact are out of our control.

    PEACE

  • "To thine own self be true." Thankyou Micah for bringing up such an essential topic. There are so many things that determine us is when we get lazy; gender, ethnicity, culture, education, age, ... others' criticism, others' praise. When we can see how all these kind of things influence us, then we can sometimes slip between them and actually act out of freedom.

We need to understand that a 'point of view' is not an espousal. It is simply that place at which we stand and look (and listen).

  • @therarub very true, excellent response. thanks for listening sharing your insight.

  • I believe a small about of criticism is good, but I agree an artist has to go with their own feelings of their work. Great video good discussion.

  • @Rutle yeah, i think a bit of push is necessary sometimes, but too many critics are just insecure. i think most critical people feel the need to bring others down to make themselves feel better.

  • Tryng to 'please' other people. It can cripple you, if your motivation is to be a 'people pleaser' No matter how well you live, there are always going to be them who dislike you. I just roll with it, and so long as I am not trampling on your flower beds.. I really don't care if I am popular. I know God loves me, and he gives me freedom to be myself. He is also who rewards me, in the here and and now and in eternity. That said, I tend to be my own worst critic

  • great video (:

  • Criticism is just another person trying to make you believe that their way is the right way to do something. In art, I try to keep the things im doing my own without caring about what other people think, and in the end, i like what I have done better because its not someone else' s idea of "how it should be"

  • I don't think there is anything I could say to you to help you to understand how condescending that statement was.. it's almost like you didn't pay attention to what he was talking about.

Maybe you're just too used to poorly edited videos on YouTube, where people use jumpcuts to form their sorry excuse for thoughts. This is much different. This person is sharing his thoughts with us in a single take. He's clearly not reading from a script, yet he completely stays on topic.

  • @emriederekify why do you think he should stick to art and music???? I think he makes really good points when he's talking to the camera.

  • Point taken, but perhaps you should stick with your art and music, just my opinion, but what better way to develop your speaking skills than just practice (albeit, live for the world to see). Live and let Die!

  • i think that criticism is good as long as it's not overdone. too much is bad and too little is bad. too much can discourage someone and too little can cause complacency.

    i love these videos :) <3

  • By the way, you would be AMAZING in an oxford/cambridge interview. They ask stuff like "what is culture?" - you'd blow them away, mate.
