~*~PLEASE COMMENT!!~*~ Extreme railfanning action on November 18th, 2009! Power from BCOL, BN, SF, EJ&E, IC and more!

I slept in today, something that I haven't been able to do much of lately. I woke up at around Noon and flipped the scanner on. Not five minutes later, I hear the CN RTC call in the "BCOL 4-6-4-5 south." I then heard that it was the M342. Yikes! I quickly got my stuff together and I was out the door about a minute later. Here, we see the BC Rail passing through Crest Hill, IL. It proudly sounds off that sweet sounding K5H. A CN SD60F follows. A great lash-up!

While on the way to catch the BC Rail again, I happened along a Metra making its way east, minutes after departing Joliet. Here, it passes through Joliet, right after passing through the yard.

The BCOL 4645 makes its way east up the hill in Joliet with that SD60F really working hard. It was really howling.

While following the BC Rail, a Southwest Service Metra train held me up at Laraway Road in New Lenox. SWS train #830 makes its 2:33 P.M. station stop right on schedule. Double header!

Now, here I am east of Frankfort, IL., capturing the BC Rail proceeding east towards Matteson, where it'll hop onto the CN Chicago Subdivision.

Now, I'm back in Crest Hill, capturing the JSW1 returning home to Joliet. It's powered by EJ&E SD38-2 658.

Right after JSW1 was the M343 heading north, powered by a CN SD70M-2 and an IC SD70. Got to love that sweet EMD sound.

The northbound AXS1 was right on the M343's heels as EJ&E SD38-2 658 really makes its presence known!

While on the way home, I heard the L CHI101 applying the finishing touches at Joliet Yard. I headed over to Lockport, not knowing what the power was. As soon as I heard that classic RS3K, I immediately thought "BN." What a catch! A BN SD40-2, a BNSF SD40-2 and an ATSF SD40-2 roll right along through town.

  • That was possible the best K5H I've ever heard in service! Fantastic catch!

I've seen quite a few double headed Metra trains on the Rock Island line before, bu they are nowhere near as common now thanks to the arrival of the MP36's...
