  • @jackzero99 Now add submarine war to cut England's supplies. Without Dowd's masterful handling of the Battle of Britain, and the growing skills of the 'ULTRA' decrypts, it looked bad. Churchill teased and appeased Germany, and Hitler decided to head east. Read "Blood, Tears, and Folly".

  • @jackzero99 Amphibious invasion was the threat. GB had lost its modern heavy equipment in Belgium. If Germany had been able to obtain air superiority, a few divisions across the Pas de Calais supplemented by airborne forces would have been tough for the barely armed UK to fight off. Some British possessions had been occupied. USSR and italy was Hitler's ally, Norway occupied, Belgium and France conquered, and cooperating. The Royal navy could not live in the channel in daylight.

  • @DonMeaker Everyone knew the Germans had no chance of a land invasion of GB.

  • @jackzero99 Joe wasn't the only one. It was a close shave, saved not only by Churchill's defiance, the courage of many non-British pilots, but also by Churchill's appeasement of Hitler and the latter's overreaction to Soviet incompetence against Finland.

  • @DonMeaker Sure, poor Joe was out of the loop, the only one. Joe really was stupid if he thought the Germans could mount an invasion of England.

  • @jackzero99 Opposition to US aid to GB was due to concern that any aid thus proffered would be captured by Germany when England fell, as he expected, and used against us. Joe was misled by German propaganda. The statistics showing German weakness were not available to him.

  • @DonMeaker Kennedy was forced to resign as US ambassador to Great Britain in 1940 due to his opposition to US aid to GB. That is a fact. His sons joined the military on their own accord.

  • @jackzero99 No, Joe kennedy wasn't. His oldest son died in the fight against Germany, his second son was injured in the fight against Japan. Germany worked hard to scare people, and normal intelligence methods revealed that Germany made 1400+ tanks a month. Fortunately statistical intelligence methods solved "The German Tank Problem" and revealed actual production was closer to 255. Joe Kennedy didn't know statistics.

  • @BizzLeVrai Panther was supposed to be a fast tank, with only 30 tons weight, and the same engine as the Tiger. Of course Albert Speer reported that Hitler clapped so much armor on it that it wasn't fast. The same thing that happened to Tiger (start weight 45 tons, final 60+ tons). By contrast M-4 had better power-wt ratio than Pz 4, and could climb Italian hills better (report by 24th pz div).

  • @DonMeaker 45 tons with the turret or not? anyways you still right it is heavy. and at the first time it was supposed to be a medium tank like the Russian t-34.

my point if they only made panzer 4 and vk45xx that was so better balanced panzer unite.
