I would say that overall, 9.6 is faster than v8. But if you campare feature to feature.. Some things have had speed increases (most notably radiosity rendering) while others have remain unchanged.

is lightwave 9 faster than lightwave 8? cos i have lightwave 8 and on the mac it uses power pc processor settings, which are slower than intel processors. and i know lightwave 9 is intel :-)

Great review though, I'll look into this.
Do you have recommendations for general lightwave books? or lw lighting? I have Digital Lighting and Rendering, which not application specific, but is a great book for general 3D if you haven't seen it I'd recommend taking a look.

There is a lightwave specific rendering book out there. I have it and it helped me out alot. I plan on doing a review on that as well.
