As much as 95 percent of women who develop endometrial cancer are postmenopausal. Treatment for endometrial cancer is most successful when it's caught early. The standard treatment for this kind of cancer is a hysterectomy. Some women may be candidates for an innovative, less invasive surgical procedure called da Vinci hysterectomy. Dr. Gordinier says the first step in detecting endometrial cancer is when someone has abnormal bleeding, for example spotting a year after normal periods have stopped. In premenopausal women symptoms would include heavier periods that come closer and closer together.
