The CPOE Blues

A satire of the healthcare changes happening inside and outside the hospital:
"Well a funny thing happened when I showed up at work,
Everywhere I looked there were these bright red shirts.
The people that I greeted all had a big smile,
But when I sat down they said "It's gonna take a while."
Everybody's lookin' 'round for clues
On how they're 'sposed to deal with the CPOE blues."

A calm voice said 'Let me show you to a W.O.W.'
I think if I had taken some computer science
I wouldn't have approached that thing with violence.
I gotta pay my union dues
'Cause they will never stand for the CPOE blues,
Now, there a few things I've come to hate
Like forgetting to click on 'initiate"
And, I've got nightmares that one day I'll slip
And order on a patient who is not E-DIP.
Obama says we gotta every night on the news,
But he don't have to live with the CPOE blues."

Are off their rocka's if they won't talk to us.
They say we'll benefit the healthcare deficit
With money that we spent on I.T. implement.
I wish I got to write their reviews
So I could tell 'em all about the CPOE blues.
