A nicely mic'd demo of my "Red Knob" Fender Champ 12 with a Weber Alnico 12-S speaker. It is mic'd off-axis with a vintage SM57.
The guitars are a '94 MIJ Fender Mustang, a '98 Dano U1, and a 335 copy w/ Duncan JB pickup.
It's a bit lengthy, but I figured better too long then too short. These amps are quite nice sounding, reliable, and still pretty cheap.

  • Did you get the weber signiture alnico 12s 25w speaker? If so how is the quality of this speaker itself? What tonal changes occured when you put it in?

  • Yep. The speaker seems to be very well put together and doesn't fart too much when driven hard. I'm sure there are better Alnicos, but for $45 it's great. The tone changes seemed to be a softer treble, more prominent mids, and less bass. Tight and focused would be my buzzwords. There was also more speaker breakup, which isn't a bad thing.

  • Quick question... Did you have any trouble fitting that speaker?

  • Nope - had to take the chassis out to get at the baffle, but replacing the speaker probably took 10 minutes total.

  • Hey, sounds good. It would be great if you upload it in 360p or higher for the better sound quality. I read somewhere that the mp3s for 240p are 60kbps, which is pretty bad.

  • hello,

I have one of this amps, and I wonder why the clean channel does not "crunch" (like, for example, the Blues Junior does) even if all knobs are set on 10. Is it normal for this amp or do I have to replace some tube?

  • @Floridaboy7777 And A Hard Days Night

  • All my loving. nice :)

  • dig your hendrix licks

  • very nice demo, jus wanted to add.. re speaker ... you don't have to remove the chassis to replace the speaker the baffle has two screws up top on both sides of the amp that allow the baffle to drop forward and then replace the speaker ... i used a jensen P12Q (love it ) very underrated amp i love playin backing tracks w/ my ipod through the RCA inputs too i also added the ability to use ext speaker cab, ,and also HAD to replace the plastic input jacks .. well worth it FANTASTIC tone! imho

  • Very nice playing and wonderful tone Sonicboy. I watched because someone has a red knob Champ12 for sale. From your info I am tempted to buy it and try similar mods. Once again good video.Cheers.

  • I just stumbled on your video checking out champs.I'd never heard a red knob 12 before ,sounded great, your playing was even better!

  • great job man! I also enjoyed your orange crush demo even though I had absolutely no intention of getting one.

  • Great review! I cant stand all these idiots talking nonsense and using the cameras mic as opposed to doing something as simple as an SM57 straight up. I've been searching high and low for that small tube combo going back and fourth through used and new stuff but I keep coming back to fender and this review really makes me want this amp. Thanks again.
