In addition, the way these slides-only "Action News" (ex Night Final) newscasts were structured, was similar to the sign-off editions of "NewsCenter4" on KNBC (Channel 4) in Los Angeles in the late 1970's and early '80's, which also had a combo of slides, off-camera announcers (Donald Rickles, Peggy Taylor, Victor Bozeman and possibly Don Stanley) reading wire copy, taped reports from both local and network - and commercials.
@tkaye2 - It appears this was the late night/early morning edition (as opposed to the weekend evening editions where Biery, Lowenstein and sometimes Roy Whitfield were indeed seen on-camera within this period); in an earlier time, this would have been the sign-off "Night Final" newscast; but by this time WPIX had gone 24/7, so this late night newscast preceded "The Channel 11 Film Festival."
If one looks at the way the slides look here, one can detect the use of RCA TK-27 film chains by WPIX.
The correspondent in Washington signs off her segment with "Channel 2 News." I suppose that was meant for Tribune sister station KWGN in Denver. (But didn't they call themselves "Region 2 News" at this time?)
Also, I wonder why WPIX reverted back to having Ralph Lowenstein in the announce booth when there are earlier clips of him (and Bill Biery) doing the late report on camera in the newsroom. All the slide changes, Chyrons, and tape rolls seen here surely took a few crew members anyway.
WOW, I were 10 years old on this day. lol
