A development in Western Massachusetts features solar powered, tightly sealed and super-insulated homes, which are nearly off the grid and affordable.

  • Good to see people living "off the grid".

More home builders need go in this direction.

  • With banks planning to tear down many of the abandoned and/or foreclosed homes in their inventory, wouldn't it be lovely to see developments such as this go up in their place?

    I can dream, can't I?

  • Hi, great initiative. We at 3dsolutions have decided to help promote durable residential design & contstruction this year. You can win a 15,000 USD 3d viz package for your design if you'd like to share with us your plans.

I like the video very much, please participate, for we would like to have as many designs from all over the world as possible!

  • I work on a lot of green home, but they all need ventilation to make them healthy. Even using a green product like a heat recovery ventilator it will increase the heat load. A gas space heater doesn’t distribution the heat it produces, so every room would need its own heater or they wouldn't get heat. I going to guess those homes are very uncomfortable and unhealthy. Going green takes money or sacrifice; apparently they choose sacrifice.

  • say no to subsidizing!!.......call it what it is anouther form of welfare......geesh can our govt stop spending on stuff it has no buisness in? grrr i want a home like that but since me and my wife could not afford to pay the taxes for the subsidizing and buy one too i guess we will have to keep our high bills, keep working, and let someone who works less enjoy the fruits of our labor. gotta love socialism. sorry if i offended anyone im just tired of people worshiping at the alter of green!

  • pushing those stupid bulbs.. LEDs are the future.

  • These are not just buildings! They are architectural inspirations.

  • What a great plan, giving people 240k homes that they pay 110k for. Maybe we should fully subsidise these and hand them out to everybody on welfare. Whats one more entitlement?
