I have an Apple TV and installed the new software yesterday. It works flawlessly and simply. Movies are not that important to me. Access to video podcasts and my own movies, including HD, is instantaneous and quality is gorgeous. Reason to buy Apple TV? Like everything else Apple, it just works!

Where you say your own movies, do you mean tv shows that you've downloaded (legal ones of course) - that are in divx or another format, or doesn't appletv work with that.

Yes. Movies, TV shows or whatever. Legal, of course! They must be converted to a format Apple TV understands, in this case mp4 or m4v. If you use a Mac, download VisualHub. It will convert anything, including video TS files from DVDs. Simple and cheap. A free way to convert DVDs is the excellent HandBrake. There are Windows apps that do the same thing. iTunes can play just about anything, but not Apple TV.

Ah, thanks for the info.

Shame I have to convert the downloads, I don't fancy converting about 20 series of various TV shows that I already have on my Mac!

yes either that or just get netflix! Since netflix will soon be allowing you to view on demand through your ps3 or xbox 360 !

Seriously, why pay 4.99 per movie to view when you can pay $15 a month unlimited blue-ray rentals or dvd's or even unlimited on demand

Plus netflix has more of a selection
