Terry W. Butler conducts the FESTIVAL CHOIR in "It Is Well With My Soul" arr. Carl W. Haywood at "A Salute to Black Composers-A Choral Festival", Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Norfolk State University, Douglas Wilder Theater for the Performance Arts. The FESTIVAL CHOIR is comprised of Heritage High School Concert Choir of Newport News, Virginia; Oscar Smith High School Varsity Chorale of Chesapeake, Virginia; and the Baltimore City College Concert Choir of Baltimore, Maryland.
The piece was arranged by a Black composer, "It Is Well" the familiar hymn was composed by two 19th-century evangelical White Christians

Horatio Stafford, according to Bill Gaither, was the composer of this piece.
I don't know the color of his skin, but the content of his heart, under very trying circumstances, is what really matters.

@realisticchic17 Negative. Not rude. I believe Dr. King talked about judging a person based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Judge the composition by its content, not because he was black.

Also because black composers don't get a lotta recognition as white composers.I know this 4 a fact because I go to NSU and I ain't neva heard of Dr. Carl Haywood b4 he came to my high school.

one would celebrate classical or baroque composers.
there is simply a history behind "black composers." at first their music was not accepted and they have come a long way from those times. plus if you listen, some black composers have a distinct style that is different from other composers.
