Another '78' produced in 1956 - over fifty years ago! The reverse side of the '78' is 'Old Riley' who 'walked the water in them long hot summer days'. I also have that by Lonnie Donegan.
Personnel: Ken Colyer - guitar and vocal, John Bastable - banjo, Mickey Ashman - bass, Colin Bowden - washboard.
Recorded: London - 25/5/56.

  • I first heard this on a juke box in the NAAFI at RAF Compton Bassett - doing national Service at the time. Still singing it.

    Thanks

  • I loved this and played it over and over until the grooves began to go white. Lonnie was commercial but this was so authentic and different.

    Lost John

  • A golden voice for sure!

  • I can remember that far back. 1957 was a very special year for me in many ways, some very bad, some very good. I was 11 and had long plaits. Thank you so OXO
