Yea, Chris Potter. You hear his mind working while he's playing. A vast ability to substitute over given changes, and make inventive melody. But he still hears what he wants. No wonder Herbie is doing tours with him. Amazing instrumental technique, too!
Being a Huge Yellowjackets fan and a Mike Stern fan to a lesser extent, It doesn't really sit right with me. There are definitely highlights on the album, but overal it sounds more like a Mike Stern album than a YJ album. It would have been more appropriate if the album was released as Mike Stern featuring the Yellowjackets.
Every one of these guys are amazing players. I wish I could find a drummer like Marcus. Russell is so tasty, and grooves hard. Jimmy is a singular musical persona, and Bob is perhaps the last standing voice from the Brecker era, such ease and command from each guy. I am always waiting for the next thing.
Not one of my favorite Yellowjackets CD's.

I listened to the beginning of Lyfecycle and I liked what I heard, especially since this was my first Yellowjackets release.
