"I have been singing this song live in concert since Selah began, so we felt like it was time to finally put it on an album! We had the great privilege of working with Dolly on our "Rose of Bethlehem" album nine years ago, and she and I talked about this song that day in the studio. It's the most meaningful song to her out of the many she's written (and that's saying something!). She wrote it about her mother, and it's a true story from her childhood of extreme poverty. But as Dolly put it so beautifully that morning, "I love this song because it's about a philosophy and attitude towards life. You can have nothing of material worth in this world, and still be richer than most. It's all in what you value." Dolly certainly knows whereof she speaks, and this beautiful lady's dreams, courage, and kindness have impacted my life since I was a child. Thank you, Dolly, for dreaming big and following your heart—you didn't know it at the time, but you inspired a little boy in East TN to go out and do the same!" -- Allan

  • Allan, that was so sweet! You have such a gift, I'm so happy you've chosen to share it with all of us! Loved the note from Dolly too.

  • Fantastic Allan...........you do a great job on Dolly's song and it comes from your heart.

  • Thank you, Allan for sharing this beautiful song. I shared in your tears at the end. What a blessing! And what a blessing Dolly is to so many children here in our county. Our ministry helps sponsor her Dolly Parton Imagination Library in our NC mountain county. Through her compassion and genuine concern for little children and their education, she started this program. Each month, every child from birth until they enter kindergarten gets a new book and activity for the family to do together.
