JULY 28, WASHINGTON—On the Senate floor this afternoon, Sen. Sessions addressed the competing debt limit proposals offered by Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Reid. Sessions noted that "if the year had begun with a serious budget proposal from the president, we wouldn't be in this mess right now...Senate Democrats, meanwhile, have refused to pass a budget in 820 days."

While Speaker Boehner's proposal cuts spending and raises the debt limit by roughly $1 trillion each, the debt proposal offered by Sen. Reid uses accounting tricks to hike the debt limit by $3 trillion while only cutting spending by a third as much. If enacted, Sen. Reid's proposal would represent the largest debt limit increase in U.S. history.

  • You cannot hack off a few leaves off of a diseased tree and expect the problem to be solved, to destroy the problem, look no further than the International Federal Reserve cartel, central banking and the printing of fiat currency at interest, ultimately that is what's destroying this nations economy, this is the root of the problem to destroy the problem you need to hack it off at the roots.

  • I really don't know what to believe. It seems Obama and the Far left are either completely stupid or they want to destroy America as we know it. Their plan is no plan just keep spending. The only ones who seems to be able to understand math and our massive debt is the Tea Party members. They understand we are on a speeding freight train headed for a cliff. In just five year if we keep spending as usual our interest payment will take half all fed revenues. Say bye bye to SS and medicare.

  • Republicans just dont get it. They got us in this mess. They are unamerican in every single way.

  • @JUDALATION Your so ignorant! Bush entered into his terms at 5.9trill debt. Left at around 10.2trill debt. Obama started around 10.2trill debt and is already at 14.9trill debt. The spending needs to stop and fast. I don't care who's fault it is. Unless spending is dramatically cut, we are going to default even if they increased debt ceiling double from proposed. Soon we will watch as the prime rates increase 2% and boom the perfect assasination of the dollar bill (AKA) United States.

  • Obama’s disastrous Cloward-Piven economic policies were not meant to lift the economy. He’s tripled the national deficit in less than one year. He’s increased the national debt to $12 Trillion. And he’s nearly doubled the unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate for African-Americans stands at 16.2%.

The Left couldn't have picked a better terrorist to destroy America.

  • Sigh... seeing all these comments shows Americans true problem.... STUPID VOTERS! 90% OF THIS DEBT WAS CAUSED BY BUSH... and now that we have a Democratic president...OH WE HAVE TO TAKE A STAND NOW... And the Democrats want shared sacrifice...But Republicans want to cut programs that have nothing to do with this deficit...End the wars... end the tax cuts, and you are debt free in 12 years...

  • What both traitor parties fail to explain to the public is the fact that almost all the money in the American money supply is created from the PRINCIPLE of bank loans. Unfortunately, all of this money is "owed" back to the bank plus INTEREST, and no money exists for the interest. That is why each administration has to spend/borrow more than the previous, so they can pay back yesteryears interest, if they didn't the entire money supply would dry up as it is all "owed" to the central bank.

  • @quizerry Obama will be forced into showing his hand a little more. He says not to worry. He is in control there at the White House.Promising to brave the slings and arrows of traditional conservative Patriotic Americans, he will abrogate the Constitution if necessary, to do the right thing, the balanced thing, for America.

  • This video is another disappointing example of failed leadership. If you can't get a bill passed, you are failing. Pointing fingers isn't getting the job done either. Be ready to give up some of your divisive issues, rather than pushing ideals that will never pass by a majority vote. Knowing another branch of the government will not accept your offer means you CHANGE!

  • I will NEVER understand why liberals think the answer to reduce debt is to SPEND MORE....good grief. This is a good start.

  • @ConservateEliberat0r ....you are right. The Dems did create this mess when Bush was president. They controlled the congress in 2006, when Bush was president. LOL!

You libtards really haven't got a clue what is going on, do you? You just hate, blindly anyone that is not on your ticket!

  • @rexx33...why?

Because you are mad that they have a good debt reduction plan and the Dems do not?
