Your engineer friends, who by the were probably using government money since MIT receives massive pentagon subsidy, are fucking liars, the pay system you speak of was nonexistent. GM stopped competing because their market share had been incredibly massive, and once Japan, whose engineers were still primarily Japanese, started crushing GM, the executives ran to Regan and he imposed ridiculous tariffs, allowing GM to continue to put out shitty product.

@powereddrive GM will fail again.The new greedy UAW owners will continue to strip money from the taxpayer. The US Gov. now owns some 60% of GM & I have worked with the government for my contract job. They come in late almost 10am, than take an hour or 2 to get "settled" in, take 2 hours for lunch & "start to get ready" to leave at 4. Barely putting in 2 hrs of real work. How wonder our bridges, schools are a shit hole & UNION workers do not give a shit, cause no matter what they get paid.

@powereddrive You are a moron, let me tell you a story when my engineering friends from MIT back in the early 80's. Can I type MIT in capital? They told me, do not get a job at GM or FORD, because they paid the engineers around $15/hr & their UNION workers $35/hr. Go work for HONDA or TOYOTA, because they paid their engineers more than their workers. My first car was a chevy NOVA, & that car was a piece of shit. The UNIONs not causing the demise of GM is LAUGHABLE.

Just like Solyndra, the UNIONs skim off the top such that all the tax payer money is wasted on bureaucrats, lawyers, consultants, & lobbyists which get kickbacks from all the fat UNION contracts, til there is nothing left to even pay the JANITOR. @powereddrive The Government of CA should run its finances as a business & not take taxpayer money because the government has no incentive to use it wisely. Not take tax payer money. That is slavery. The unions have not bankrupted California, the abolition of property taxes has. What happened in Greece is what happens when a country cannot control its own interest rates. GM is run by corporate and design idiots that is why they went broke. I am 23 but I served in Basra and left my life in Belfast to work in another country, what have you done with your life?
