@darthkarr destiny was launched with a mission to discover the anomaly in the background radiation of the universe, that was why the alterrans launched it from earth behind the gate seeding ships. the destiny gate is the oldest gate on record as it was the first to be created, after they came to earth they built the milkey way gate system. when the plauge occured some ascended and others left to find a new home in pegasus which lead to the creation of the pegasus network. amelius built the gates

I would be pissed off if they called humans or "terrans" the old ones, or that race.

Theyre races name is alterans, ancients sounds mystical and was proper at the start but at this point its not necessary.

@darthkarr actually u are incorrect the very first gate system built and launched was the destiny gate and then that was sent out after the gate-building ships. the atlantis model was created once the anceints came to our galaxy but it is superior to the milky way model as in the final episode of atantis we find out that teh atlantis model on the wraith ship prevented the earth gate from dialling and also rodney pointed out that they had the same problem with the midway station.

@Michaelwood187 no it was the alterran ( not ancient as they were the milky way descendants) amelius...he desgined the first gate and had the idea, although we have no idea who actualyl built the first gate...the first being on dakarra (stated as the first planet the alterrans landed on in the mw galaxy) then probaly earth

@dazlovescarter err...wroung..the earth gate is roughle between the time the ancients came to the milky way and when they escaped the plague...gotta remmeber atlantis left the galaxy cos of the plague, after it first appeared and spread from vis urban ( their unconstructed capital) which was roughly 10 millions years ago..about the same time the destiney left the galaxy..probaly again to escape the plaugee or just before as a means fo exploration..the wony say cos sgu sucks

the earth gate was in fact the 3rd gate to be built by the ancients the first ever gate to be built was the destiny gate, then the atlantis and finally the mikeyway model. problem tho was the atlantis model supersided the milkeyway model and the destiny gate is slightly different aswell as being points in space the address is also a code as it will only lock with the earth symbol as the point of origin as discovered by elli wallace in the pilot episode of stargate universe
