The Anathema service, served in cathedrals after liturgy on the first Sunday of Great Lent as recorded here in Chicago with Protodeacon Vadim Gan and Bishop Peter of Cleveland. That Sunday is called the "Triumph of Orthodoxy" (over all world heresies).

Eternal memory is sung to all past Tsars & Emperors of Russia, then the protodeacon announces the many heresies overcome by the ancient Apostolic Orthodox Church and the choir and laity respond "Anathema" 3 times (meaning outside of the truth).

It's a beatiful, ancient and amazing service, which you would be priveleged to witness, unless you attend a parish with a bishop!

  • Great service of truth!

  • This is service which is held once in year in Orthodox Church. In this service all wrong teachings are being cursed as wrong and as enemies of souls of the people. Orthodox Church as the only successor of Christ and his Apostles and as one like that, has rite to curse all wrong teachings who are now everywhere in this world.

Anathema is caused on Roman-Catholic "Church" , Protestant "Churches" and all others.
