My dad has been talking about making a kayak or canoe lately so we we pulled up some videos on youtube and this was the first one we watched. This wouldn't happen to be at Big Star Lake in Baldwin, MI would it? the boat launch and one of the cottages in the background when you're in the water looked familiar. Great video and very nice kayak by the way!

@Chris48661 The music is awesome!!! I may stand alone on this... but I'll stand!

So what are all the tiki torches for? And where do you get the inside supports and strips?

Thanks Dave for the tips. This was my first one and I did make a lot of mistakes. I started another one (the hull is completely striped but not planned or sanded yet : ) I;ll try the water soak trick for the staple holes.

Yes, I collect them (just kidding)
Say instead of using staples on the planking to the mold, couldn't you epoxy each piece at a time, I know it would probably take a little while longer but that would give it a nice finish, If you do staple do you have to pull them out before you fiberglass or after , if before how does the kayak keep its shape with out the staples holding it in place? very nice job by the way!

You missed an important step, each wood strip is glued to it's neighbor, when the glue sets the stables can be pulled out and this must be done before fiberglassing so you can remove the deck and hall from the form. The inside is fiberglassed also and then the two halfs are fiberglassed together.
