  • 440c isnt that great 8- bucks is a lot for a knife of that steel buck special 119 is half that price and sometimesu can find them on sale at stores like big 5 my friend bought his half off there for 20 bucks same steel nice blade too

  • @michaelluvzdaisy12 IIRC, Buck 119 is 420HC, not 440C. Also, the blade steel isn't the sole factor that determines price. And isn't the MSRP of the Buck ~$80 anyway?

  • 80 bucks is still a lot on money for 440c most of the 440c blades that i had were from CRKT and gerber and some china made knifes you get at a gun show and ill tell you the metal is far to soft for anytyhing past opening a letter or cutting some soft meats and other foods and if you think its any good get a 1.00 walmart knife and blade test that against this boker of your put them threw the same test of cutting cardboard and you will see how soft the metal is

  • @Evak103 I don't see too many 440c blades on Cheap China blades or from CRKT... most of those cheaper blades use something more like 440a or AUS-6. I don't know what kind of 440C you have been using, but its plenty tough for opening a letter, and it can do more than that. It won't out cut a Busse, but its not the way you make it out to be. I've owned and used some pretty nice steels and I don't even have that level of steel snobbery!

  • Lol guys, you can make any steel suck by not heat treating it right.

  • @xilix Amen, I 100% agree with you

  • @michaelluvzdaisy12 With all my respects, you have no idea what you are talking about. Most of the Spanish and Frech knives are made with 440C and 12C27 (similar) steels and are really good. A well tenpered 440C chromium-vanadium is simply excellent, heat treatment is the key to get a good steel. By the way, I also got VG-10, CPM30 and ZDP 189 blades to conmpare with. I stick on my Spanish and French 440C pocket knives.

  • @blitzspeer News Flash: It's not the 1970's or early 80's anymore. 440c that is treated correctly, is more than adequate at holding an edge. It's an undeniable fact. 440c that is heat treated right, double drawn, with subzero quench, can achieve an average HRC of 57-58, and as high as 60. I've had quite a few knives made with this steel, and the difference between 440c that is treated right, and not treated right, is night and day. I can't believe how many people don't know this by now!

  • That is a good value blade the quality of the f+f looks really high, what is with the guys hating 440c, its a decent steel if it gets the right HT, given the finish of the knife i think the HT will be top notch too.

    nice presentation btw.

  • I couldn't care less if the Knife comes from China, or Taiwan, or the USA, or Germany or whatever. If it's good, it's good, and if you feel the money was well spent, then be happy with it.

  • Haha $90.00 dollars for Chinese crap.440C ooh like that's great;nothing high molly low carbon holds an edge. This knife should be $25.00 or less. This guy bought this because of it's looks that are by the way ridiculous and not efficient.1090 or 1070 is much better metal and even they're not close to the top.440C is better than 440A and 440A is comparable to AUS8 and AUS6 check out Rockwell testing.

  • All the Japanese steels will be radioactive from now on. Yes, this "special treatment" will cost more.
