James Kalm is privileged to bring viewers along for an exclusive studio visit with one of New York's most up-and-coming painters. Chris Martin is one of a small cadre of avant painters who have coalesced around the Williamsburg neighborhood. After decades of consistent work, collectors and critics are responding with great anticipation of his show at Mitchell Inness & Nash. In this extended interview, Martin discusses his interest "Outsider Art" the eccentric materials he uses, and some of his basic artistic philosophy.

  • Thank you James. Will you be doing more studio visits?

  • With the summer comming on, and things slowing down with the galleries I hope to get out to some very interesting studios. Stay tuned

  • Mannnnn, I thought this was gonna be about Chris Martin from Coldplay. I'm disappointed.

  • i don't know mr. martin, but i do live and work in nyc, the 'trust fund' is bothersome. some of us make it here by working very hard, one job, two jobs, while making art in our spare time. it's a tough road, but there are alot of tough people here competing for a small prize; give mr. martin some credit for surviving! :)

  • Chris Martin will be in "Soft Edge", alongside Nora Griffin, Peter Acheson, Anna Rosen, Rachel Salamone, and Maria Walker. at Camel Art Space, Brooklyn. Opening December 11th, 2009, running thru the 20th.

  • Chris Martin gave me THE best studio visit ever! he is def the best!

  • It is very impressive when you sense that an artist has really reached his maturity and the point when he can say: "now I think I can paint". This is what we are witnessing here; not that Chris Martin was an immature artist before, but, here, he is better than ever. Much energy in these works.

  • Chris Martin ... I dig ur talent ;o)... and ur three favorite words... absurd ... Fucked ...up... the idiot who is interviewing you had to correct you ??? No ... he could have been more creative and say oh lets make it your 3 favorite words... his comment was ABSURD and i wish you would've FUCKED him UP... sincerely ... xo MiSS OLiViA ox
