Look Homeward Angel
written by Wally Gold
performed by The Monarchs
issued as Sound Stage 7 2516 in December 1963
Sometime in the summer of 1962, Jack Sander parted ways with Ray Allen and Hardy Martin and the Tilt label's last single was issued in September 1962. Thus, setting the stage for Allen-Martin's second label, Jam.
From August 1962 til mid-1968, 16 releases were issued on Jam (101-105, 107-115, 501, and one un-numbered single). Of those 16, three were picked up for national distubution. During that same time, Allen-Martin had many "Jam Productions" released by Monument, mostly on their Sound Stage 7 label.
Here is a quick look at the "Jam Productions" releases that are on my want list (hint-hint):
Capitol 4852 - The Tren-Dells: Nite Owl / Hully Gully Jones
Jam 102 - Paul Penny: Two Lovers' Ways / True Fine Mama
Sound Stage 7 2504 - Cosmo: Small Town Gossip / Thing I'd Like to Do
Jam 107 - The Sultans: Mary. Mary / How Far Does a Friendship Go
Sound Stage 7 2530 - The Monarchs: Climb Every Mountain / Take Me Home
Jam 112 - The Night Crawlers: Little Egypt / A Fool In Love
Jam 501 - The Keys: When You Wish Upon a Star / Barbara
Jam 115 - Shad and Mike: Tommy Dumbrowski's Never Ending Search For The True Spirit of Christmas / The Christmas Turkey
Jam No# - Bob Millard w/ Ron Bedden Baugh Trio: Better Late Than Never / Second Fiddle
Before the final Jam singles were released, Allen-Martin started up two more labels - Boss (1965-67) and Top Dog (1966-67). More on those later. . .
This was a local hit in Louisville, KY.
