Happiness and love cannot be bought but even so, it's nice to be rewarded. Seeing someone smile from something you could do is priceless. All you have to do is give: give love, give hope, give life.

"What do you say we get some sleep?"
"Yeah, I'm tired. Can you sing me to sleep?"
"Um, not tonight. I still feel terrible about what happened."
"Please, Joe?" Abigail gave me a pouty look. How could I say no to those gorgeous eyes and long lashes that begged me with beauty? She was too cute. I knew I couldn't last long against that look.
"Okay."
"Let me blow out the lantern."
She leaned over and her silky blue nightgown looked so eternally beautiful on her perfect figure. She blew out the light and turned to kiss me. "Okay. Let's lay down."
We both got under the covers and I held Abigail close to my body. I was shirtless and the fabric of her adorable nightgown felt so nice against my skin. We snuggled close to each other and I kissed her forehead. "You are so beautiful."
"Thank you."
"Right. Song for you. Let me think."
"Do my favorite."
"I think I know what you're talking about."
"When you look me in the eyes

~~ The Next Morning ~~
"Abigail, sweetheart, I have to go home."
She hugged me. "I know. I'm going to miss you."
"I'll be back later, okay?"
"Okay. Love you, Joe."
"I love you, too." I gave her a goodbye kiss and left, getting ready to face my parents. This wasn't going to be fun.
I went through the front entrance and searched for my parents. Keri ran up to me. "Your Highness, you're here, you're alive! Come. The King and Queen are very worried."
I went into the main room and saw my parents speaking in hush tones. "Mother, father, I'm home."
They both turned. My mother was the first to speak. "Joseph, you're home!" She ran to me and hugged me. "Where have you been, Joseph? We have been worried sick about you."
My father joined the hug. "Son, are you okay? Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm fine. I just want to stay in my room for a while."
"Okay, son. Talk to us when you can."
I went up to my room and grabbed Keri as I did. We got in the room and I turned to her. Just as I did, Keri hugged me. "Oh, Your Highness, I am so glad you are okay. Are you and Abigail okay now? She was so torn up about you. You should have seen how much she cried."
"Yes, we're okay. I love her so much but I have a problem."
"What is it, sire?"
"I lost her necklace, the one with the inscription. I felt so terrible about it. I want to give her something special to replace it."
"Like what?"
"Well, this is what I want."
~~ That Night ~~
I grabbed my gift for Abigail and headed over to see her again. This was perfect. I was sure that Abigail would love what I got her. I reached her window and looked in. I could see that she was lighting a lantern. She was wearing her blue nightgown again. She was too beautiful.
Abigail sat on the bed and played with her fingers. She was so adorable and I smiled. I opened the window and dropped in, holding the box behind my back. "Hi, Abigail."
"Joe!" She stood up and kissed me. She noticed my hand and tried to look behind me. "Joe, what do you have behind your back?"
"Wait. Let me explain. I felt horrible about losing your necklace last night."
"Joe, I already told you. It really is okay."
"No, it isn't. So I decided to get you a little gift to make up for it."
"You didn't have to."
"But I really wanted to. Here." I held the box out for her.
She carefully opened the box and gasped. "Oh, Joe. You got this... for me?"
"For both of us." I wrapped my arm around her waist. I looked at the open box. In it were two silver necklaces with a charm in the shape of a heart. It was cut into two pieces. One half read 'Love is patient' while the other side said 'Love never fails.' Each side had a small heart cut out beside the word 'Love.' "Do you like it?"
"I love it. Thank you so much." Abigail turned and kissed me, turning back afterwards. "Why is there two chains?"
"One half is for you and the other is for me. So which side do you want?"
"I... wow. Is this really for me?"
I put my lips to her ear. "It's all for you," I whispered, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind.
"I love when you do that." She turned around in my arms and kissed me. "You are so sweet to me."
"I love you. So what half do you want?"
"Love never fails."
"Okay. Let me put it on you." I grabbed it from the box and unclasped the chain. Abigail lifted her hair and I put the necklace around her neck. I clasped the hook and started kissing her shoulder, replacing my arms around her waist. I continued to press my lips against her soft skin.
"Joe?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"I love you, too." I slept peacefully, holding the most precious thing in the world to me: Abigail.

Joe is just the cutest isn't he? And to be honest, I thought Joe's parents would freak out more. I mean, he was gone for what, a week? Maybe more? Maybe less... I don't know. either way, they should care about him more... And Keri was very sweet about it :) And the necklace was just too cute :)
