There's high drama in Sri Lanka just hours before the results of its presidential election are declared. The opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka says there is a conspiracy to assassinate him and he may flee the country. General Fonseka spoke exclusively to News X soon after he went into hiding. He's moved into a hotel in Colombo's suburbs and has booked an entire floor for him and his staff. The area has also been surrounded by armed guards to keep Fonseka safe. Fonseka has also appealed to international governments for help.

  • @sonofthedestroyer yes it does sound like one , a civil war started by MR!!!

  • @1982mockingbird1982 exactly .....

  • @MultiEleena Okay you make a good point and I think I might have been a little bit ignorant before. Im not sure what role Sarath played in the war crimes and when I think about it he took a great risk testifying in the US. So perhaps he is just a good man caught up in a bad situation created by the Rajapaksa's. Regardless, I think his democratic reforms to delegate power to the parliment would have been great for the country and its a shame the Rajapaksa's stopped him succeeding.

  • @MultiEleena to stand up against him, a "war criminal" ???

  • @1982mockingbird1982 I agree with you only to a certain extent, i am glad that this is everyone's problem and not just the Tamils. But I have to disagree with you about Sarath Fonseka being a war criminal because now the truth about Mahinda is in fact coming out. He and his brothers were the ones who did all the "inflicting”. What I can't understand about you is that, you know that Mahinda is a "ruthless, cold-blooded nationalist" but yet you continue to call the only man who was brave enough

  • BETTER PLACE FOR THIS MAN IS THE PRISON, OTHERWISE THIS IS ANOTHER LYBIA.

  • VICTIM OF ARROGANCE.

  • Hi iam Pakistani , i was seeing the profile of Sarath Fonseka and his military era to end civil war against Tamil's , I was very amused and impressed but when i read about his arrests and court martial , i was very disappointed , i personally think hero's should not be treated like this ...

  • @nila781116 Are you talking about Sinhalese nationalists? If so then I agree and I hope there are more Sinhalese like you who will stand up for the innocent, no matter what ethnicity they may be or whether their interests are connected to yours

  • @MultiEleena Well this is what the people get for endorsing a rutheless, cold-blooded nationalist.. Im just glad it will be everyones problem and not just the Tamils problem anymore. I know this sounds wrong but Fonseca is a war criminal, he deserves to experience a tiny aspect of the terror, lies and intimidation he has been inflicting on innocents for years. And maybe people will now see Mahinda's true face and pay the price for endorsing someone so evil and corrupt
