iPTech 8 - How to make you Windows/PC run faster? (PART2)

A user here in YouTube asked how he could get his computer running faster. I admit I took some time to finally answer, but at least I'm doing it now (better late than never!).

I this part, I go through a few of the things you can do on your Windows to make it run faster:

1.A - Don't install software you don't need, and right now, go on and uninstall everything you don't need/use. The less programs on your hard-drive, the less files you will have and this means your processor will take less time to search for what it needs to complete tasks ;

1.B - Sometimes you don't need to have lots of photos, videos and music lying around in your computer, but still might not want to lose them, BUT, why not burn them into a DVD or get an external hard-drive and copy them into there instead of having them on your computer?

2 - Every once a month, run the hard-drive cleaner utility. Getting rid of all those temporary files will only help your computer to run faster. Don't forget to get rid of System Restore Point as well. Last time I did that on my pc, I got 5Gb back! ;

3 - Run the disk defragger every month as well. Installing and uninstalling programs (works for files as well) leave empty spaces on the hard-drive, which then are occupied with fragmented files. This slows down your computer...a lot! ;

4 - If you feel you're experienced enough, shut down some services that your machine does not need. Execute "sevices.msc" and follow this guide - http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm ;

5 - By executing "msconfig" you can tweak a few more things on your computer such as startup items. Some of them you don't really need to have turned on all the time. So not only do they slow down start up, but eat RAM as well. Again, only do this if you're experienced, OR with the help of "Advanced System Optimizer" (video on this app soon!).

6 - Disable effects on Windows. Some effects are really not that essential and only slow down the system, so why not turn them off? Also, avoid getting more themes (Alienware, ThemeXP, WindowsBlinds), just use the ones you already have. If you run the Classic Windows Theme even better! Also, setting a single color background also helps.

7 - Run something like "Advanced System Optimizer" to clean even more trash on your computer. ASO also has a Registry Defragger, Spyware Remover among others! It costs 30 Dollars though...but CCleaner is a good alternative (for FREE!)

8 - Don't forget previous tips! Always have automatic updates for your OS, Softwares and Hardwares (Drivers) and always have an Anti-Virus updated and running.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars because you missed the advanced user techniques for speeding up a PC. For example using regedit to speed up boot,shutdown, and more.
