Here's my poem, entitled "If It Hadn't Tasted Like Vinegar with a Dash of Maple Syrup, It Might Have Tasted Like Strawberries."

Fifty-two days before
After everyone left, she cast a shadow
stinging syrup
the cadence of her voice
the sound of that smile
I felt warm but not drunk
slow, lazy circles
one layer between us.
"Suffering is universal."
And I felt the absence of her hand on me.
"Shh. Shh. Don't ruin it."
