Wow, such an intriguing difference between US and UK laws.

As much of a headache as things like this prove to be, we really are fortunate that we live in a time when we can observe first hand as the Internet reshapes copyright law (among countless other things, obviously).

I joke that whenever "Happy Birthday" is moving out of copyright that the copyright laws mysteriously change but there is an element of truth to this. Copyright legislation is constantly changing and as you note it varies from territory to territory. I contacted APRA (a performing rights association in Australia) about royalties for my 'public performances' on the Internet and they had no answers. The Internet is still an undefined territory in many ways.

This really sucks! I refuse to watch alot of TV that is on today because to me, it's all trash. I hate reality TV, I believe crap like reality TV is pure garbage, so I find old shows on the Internet. I found your PDT such an enjoyable site and I'm truly sadden that you have to take all the wonderful movies that you have posted off. I understand copyright laws, but you were dealt a bad blow. It bites that YouTube can show T&A and dogs and cats mating with each other but not a old movie via 1903!

Actually, I have a suspicion that Alice might show up on DVD after this fiasco. It might be put as part of an Alice collection set to try to hitch a ride off of Burton's movie to make some money for some grubby company.

Or maybe it'll be on Burton's film's DVD as a bonus feature!

That still doesn't justify what happened though, don't get me wrong. :/

Thank you for all of the great entertainment that you gave us during the last two years. We got to watch a lot of obscure films that most of us would have never gotten the chance to see otherwise. Keep your chin up, bro.
