Coco was a third generation Russian circus clown, who achieved his fame in England where the family came while he was a youth. He was associated with the Bertram Mills and Billy Smart Circuses in England, which later included tours of Europe. He came to the U.S. in 1953 to work for a limited time with the Mills Bros. Circus, before returning to England. Coco later joined Ringling Brothers, working eight years as advance man and goodwill ambassador. He developed several classic clown routines, including "Busy Bee". He later became an independent working clown, sometimes acting as an advance performer in small shows.
I was with my friends one evening at Olympia where Bertram Mills Circus was playing.
We spotted Coco the clown sitting on a bench, it was just outside the areana where the fun fair was.
We all run over to Coco as we were very excited to see him he said to us 'Fuck off you little Bratzsssss'.
I was about 11 at the time and was shocked that an adult would talk to us like that never mind a clown.
Must of been having a bad day.

There was an Alex Kerr with Bertram Mills Circus, he was the Lion Tamer, and was in the ring with the lions. I had a boy friend who worked with them so I remember him well, and Co Co also Jimmy Scott.
