STS-127 SRB Video - Left Intertank View

STS-127 launched on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009. This is a replay of one of the SRB cameras from the ascent, showing a great view of the ride uphill during the first stage of ascent.

at about :30 to :40 sec. you see whats looks to be "stress marks"? What causes this? Is it a a force working on the SRB from great speeds and gravity? What's causing the small chips a little later?

Are you talking about the smoke-colored air that moves up the tank? That'd be when the Shuttle is going supersonic, it's natural.

The small chips is probably because she's moving at very high speeds with little atmospheric pressure, and the tank expands as it uses the propellant. Again, it's natural and seen on every flight. Take a look at the other STS-127 intertank SRB video, though, and you'll see bigger chunks being lost. That's NOT normal, and has only happened on this flight.

I dont know if its heat but at about 30-40 seconds you can see "wavy" lines in between the fringes of the SRB (not the smoke colored vapor). It could be something optically created by the camera, dont know but it looks to be on the surface of the SRB? Maybe stress from the expansion of the tank??

I prefer this longer version because it isn't edited for length like other versions. The haunting moan as it hits atmo and starts to heat up is very cool.

Wow that is amazing! For awhile I was going to stop the video because it seemed really boring, but those shots in space were great!
