Jonathan Coulton went over there to London to perform a concert. He opened with Over There, saying 'Better get this one out of the way', afterwards he said "I won't insult you again", he didn't keep that promise very long :)

It is a shame I didn't get any of the opening banter for the song.

Sorry about the video quality and the fact it stops shortly before the end, my camera is not very good, and ran out of memory before the end.

  • i also think that schoolhouse rhyme was lost on the English. the whole "there's a hole in the wall where the men can see it all" thing...

  • Yeah, I have never got that line.

  • it's a fairly common childhood rhyme here in the states. it's really immature, and perfect for a song like this.

  • Ok, how does it go? Or failing that, what do I need to google to find it?

  • Ah, he was awesome. I was standing pretty close too, probably the most fun I've had in a while.

  • We were all standing pretty close, it was a small room and it was full. ;)

  • Fantastic show. Love the huge response from the audience with the WW2 line :D

There was so much energy in the room, and we all sang along to the songs

  • Pahaha the world war 2 line's fantastic!

  • @jocopro Well you asked three years ago and I've finally have an answer for you. I found a wiki article about it titled "The Streets of Cairo, or the Poor Little Country Maid"

Basically its a tune to the 'snake charmer' song and usually has the same couple first lines. After the 'hole in the wall where the boys can see it all" but it changes from person to person/[/region/family]

My grandmother used to sing it to me

  • @Enigma1790 Yeah it was definitely "Yes we do!"

  • awh :D

  • @Enigma1790 Sounds more like "Yes we do" to me.

  • I love the brit who yelled "We know!" at the twinkie line

  • "There's a place in France

    Where the naked ladies dance.

There's a hole in the wall

Where the boys can see it all.

    But the boys don't care

    'Cause they eat their underwear."
