Although it's not going code 3. It's an interesting piece of apparatus that is quickly becoming extinct around these parts. This is the last Snorkel in service on Vancouver Island. It runs out of Esquimalt's only Fire Hall. A suburb of Victoria, B.C. Canada.

  • Nice snorkel truck. And it is built on a ford chasie. Ford

    is the best.

  • @marykateolsen1000 , just taken out of active service and replaced with a modern ladder from what I've heard.

  • One thing to keep in mind is the Ford C-series was not really built to accommodate such a large engine. The cab would have to be modified and lifted up to where the headlights are raised to the point to where they might actually be up too high. Unlike the Mack MR and the White Expeditor tilt-cabs, which were engineered for larger engines, there is no floor hump in the Ford C-series. You have to admit it's not too ergonomic, but it still worked.

  • That explains the unusual look of this "elevated" COE.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! A Ford C-Series with a 2-cycle Detroit in action!!!! I once saw one of the old 1972 Vancouver "Super Pumps" which were Ford C-9000's with 8V-71's. My jaw dropped as it cruised by. I either expect to hear a Cat 3208 V-8 or Detroit 8.2 liter V-8, but it seems the only 2-cycle Detroit-equipped C-Series rigs only went to Canada.

Can you do us truck buffs a favor: Can you put "Ford C-Series" in your tags, please? Thanks.

  • Your enthusiasm is appreciated. I was'nt going to post this vid as I did'nt think anyone would be interested. Thanks for posting your comment!

I've changed the Tag for you and anyone else that's interested in this type of apparatus.

  • @RDG484 That's right. When Mack used the Budd-built cab for it's N-series,it had a doghouse to accomodate Mack's big six cylinder gas & diesel engines.Thats interesting that they used an 8V-71 in that C-model-IMPRESSIVE!!

  • This old beauty was sadly replaced about a year ago with a Smeal built Spartan Gladiator. I just posted a video reply that shows the new truck.

  • Do They tell build Snorkel Trucks. That is a nice Rig.

  • @911caddy

In the USA I don't believe there were any C9000s or CT9000s per se. If there were, they would've been custom jobs. The Detroit 6-71 and 8V71 would've been the common diesels if any existed.

  • oh my god that rig is beautiful!!!

  • Is this thing still in service? and why are they slowly going out?
