Carey Beebe chipping the newly-strung harpsichord to pitch.

The strings must be brought close to pitch, allowing them to stretch and putting the case under tension before the action can be effectively installed. A Korg OT-12 (now superseded by the OT-120) electronic tuner is used to generate the tones while each unison string is plucked in turn with a fingernail. When the unison choirs are done, the tuner can be turned off. Then each 4´ string can be brought up to pitch with its corresponding front 8´ string.
