A very early Ray Stevens release (1959) before he became famous.

  • This song was popular on the radio in Montgomery, Alabama. I remember hearing it. Don't remember how long it lasted.

  • King-Trendall Broadcasting, which owned the rights to "Sgt. Preston" -- threatened to sue Stevens and this record was pulled off the market. It's always been a favorite of mine, along with "Wake Me" and "Alley Oop"

    Thanks for putting it here!!

  • Ray Stevens is the best comedy singer ever!

  • Song reached number six in OKC on KOMA and WKY.

  • Ray Stevens - Sergeant Preston of the Yukon b /w Who Do You Love- released in the summer of 1960.

George Jones had a similar copyright problem.

"Yabba Dabba Doo The King Is Gone (So Are You)" charted #26 in 1989.

    .

George .."I had a song Yabba Dabba Doo that Hanna-Barbara made us take off the market. It was getting a lot of play and starting to be a big record for me; the kids just loved it because it was about The Flintstones and they made Columbia pull the record from the radio."

  • Even though this record of Stevens didn't chart nationally, it did make it into the top 10 here in Oklahoma City on top 40 station WKY. I have the

record as well as the survey to prove.

  • Amazing 3 years later this song returns as Ahab the Arab and becomes a Hit. You just have to be in the right place at the right time

  • regardless of the pulling, here it is, there ray is (not dead yet, yeah), and where is the preston coopyright? who gives an eskimo pie!
