Jake Heaps is one of the most sought after high school quarterbacks in the nation. With his senior year ahead of him, Jake is poised to take his 18 Division 1 offers, national accolades, a 28-0 record and two state titles back onto the field to battle with his highly talented cohorts or the Skyline Spartans to attempt a 3-peat in 2009.
Claiming the 1984 NT is pathetic. If BYU had played UW, they would have been killed by 50 points. UW close the Orange Bowl for the many milllions, and to play the best ompetition (Oklahoma) and beat them easily. Seriously. Go back and look at who BYU played that year. It included some high school teams.

BYU never won the national title in 1984 dude. The only people who say that as BYU alums. Read what many coaches said about that debacle - Scwitzer called their schedule 'Bo Diddly Tech'. I went to that Holiday Bowl vesus a 6-6 Michigan team. It was a joke.

He had a great team in high school, BYU is really coming alive recently. We're looking at another 1984 if not during his junior year then his senior year for sure.

Eight games into the season, 7 INTs and 2 TDs.
Great recruit for BYU. A team perfectly deserving of their pathetic 3-5 record.

Well, lookee here. Notre Dame went, what? -- 6-6. How about that! I don't know if byucougarsrock1 took you up on your bet, but whether he did or did not, I'm sure he didn't get paid.
But at least UT rocked this year, eh? That 7-6 record sure showed the world UT is back! But at least your coach didn't take the first train out of town, and good thing you didn't get turned down by a few dozen other coaches in your search to replace him.
Tennessee: the program everyone wants to be at, right?

Even if we in the Mountain West got an automatic bid, I'd still want a playoff system. And the reason is there is a pecking order even amongst BCS teams. For example, Cincinatti went undefeated this past year just like Alabama and Texas did but never got a chance to play for the title. Every other sport, both pro and college, has a playoff system. Who wins the title, and who can even PLAY for the title, should not be left up to biased opinions and convaluted computer rankings.

Bring Boise State and Hawaii to the Mountain West and make the Mountain West Conference an automatic qualifier for a BCS bowl game and we end the discussions for a playoff system. Its really is quite simple. Also add an extra game at the end of the year if necessary to clearly recognize the #1 college football team in the country and take away all confusion.
BYU, Utah, TCU, Air Force, and Boise State can all play with any team in the country. That's a fact.
