In this guitar lesson we check out the Minimum Movement exercise which is great for learning to control your fingers. It's a lot harder than it looks! ;)

This is part of Justin's Intermediate Guitar Method, Foundation. A series of lessons available free online!

http://justinguitar.com/en/IM-000-IntermediateMethod.php

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships, no free ebook. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with this lesson (and for further info and tabs), find the Lesson ID in the video title (like ST-667 or whatever) and then look it up on the Lesson Index page of justinguitar.com

Have fun :)

  • This is a very important lesson-I've realized my fingers are really 'flying' as you call it, and that's a lot of wasted movement. Thanks.

  • Anyone got any advice? I just can't seem to stop my little finger from lifting when I'm pushing down with the others, or when I'm moving strings, and when I go slow they won't stay still! Is it just a case of keep going and try not to throw your guitar at a wall, or is there any tricks that help?

  • How much do I suck! This never even occurred to me.

Donation to the website forthcoming :)

  • how is that helping in high speed? i mean controlling your fingers at 1 note per 50 bpm is one thing, but is it going to help at 4 notes per 120bpm?

  • when i`m going 5-4-2 or 5-3-2 my pinkie is raising like 2 cm from the finger board : D wtf?

  • @deathmetallica2nd stop smoking :)

  • my fingers shiver while concentrating so slow and thats the main cause for loosing control...i smoke too i know thats one reason for it

can any1 tel a good solution?

  • fuck my ring finger in the face!!!

  • Wow the improvement is actually quite marked even in 5 minutes. Definitely going to keep this in my excercise routine for a long time to come.

  • @IsaacIsMopped My pinky is my only problem too

  • Only one problem with this lesson though: IT MAKES YOU WANT TO CHOP YOUR BLOODY FINGERS OFF!
