She's planting lavender gardens and preserving a working farm in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Darlene Anastas of Middleboro recently signed a lease with the Trustees of Reservations that will enable her to develop a former Lakeville horse farm that was willed to the organization by the late Lydia Rotch when she died in 2005. The trustees care for 99 places and about 25,000 acres of conservation land in the name of preserving and promoting the state's natural and cultural treasures.
In addition to growing lavender, Anastas intends to grow and sell corn, vegetables and plants to help make the farm profitable.
