Yes, Atari was released years ahead of the Intellivision and Colecovision. You are right about the dedicated game consoles. Most were pong clones. We owned one when I was a kid.

what's the deal with making fun of the primitive graphics? That's all that could be done back then. What do you want, Call of Duty Black Ops on Intellivision? Just like life itself, video games - the graphics, sound, gameplay, etc - have evolved over time. Heck, games are still evolving....Atari 2600 is fun!!
