- News Letter by René Seghers April 24.2010 -
Dear Friends of Franco Corelli,
On April 22, Mr. Seghers attended the Milan book presentation of his colleague Giancarlo Landini's Italian language Franco Corelli biography "L'Uomo, la voce, l'arte." The next in a range of Corelli books published since Prince of Tenors!
Landini wrote a very fine book, concentrating, like Marina Boagno before him, on Franco Corelli's career and art. Therefore the most interesting things to the fan are arguably the exquisite photo section, with does feature many pictures from Franco in private. And more good news on the photos" they are gorgeously printed in a large size coffee table book, of 30 x 26 centimeters! Only very few of those 200 pictures (ranging from small size to full page) duplicate with those in Prince of Tenors, which makes the book quite a catch! Not to mention...
THE CD!
The book has a CD with a tracking that will stun the true fan, since there are three excerpts of Franco's Home rehearsals for Guglielmo Tell, as well as excerpts of rehearsals of Poliuto, and Il trovatore. And it gets better: Corelli recorded himself at home, while singing along with Caruso in "Ah! Fuyez, douce image," he vocalizes, tries his voice in an intermission at the MET in Werther's "Pourquoi me réveiller," and didn't return some song recordings to Cetra, after recieving the masters. Two of them, "Bona jurnata," and "Lasseme stà" are included on the CD!
We say: Bravo Landini! Bravo Loretta, Graziano, and Simone Corelli (who restored the audio)!
BOOK REVIEW
A full review of the book is now online at www.francocorelli.nl on the A New Biography page.
CD REVIEW
A review of the CD will soon be published on the reviews page!
SAMPLES
After having had the Enea tune from the Prince of Tenors book presentation on the website for over a year, I decided to promote Landini's effort by exchanging it with brief promotional samples from the CD to the book, which should make any one of us who wasn't there hungry for more!.
We urge anyone who truly loves Franco to buy the CD with the book, instead of trying to download it somewhere in the future, since such labor can only continue when poeple buy it instead of taking it.
The book can be bought at www.ideabooks.com, and soon also from the distinguished UK bookdealer George Burr, at GBopera@aol.com

MORE NEWS:
we are anxiously awaiting Stefan Zucker's Corelli bio, announced decades ago, in pre order on Amazon, since half a year now, but still not deliverable. As soon as it appears, we will galdly inform you and review the book.

LAST GREETING
A final salute to Tom Kaufman, a good personal friend of Mr. Seghers who passed away in Baltimore USA, on the very day of the Landini book presentation. Tom was instrumental in the construction of Mr. Seghers's upcoming biography of the first Tosca, Hariclea Darclée. Mr. Seghers expresses his condoleances to Tom's wife Marion, and all Tom's friends.
Best regards,
The team at FrancoCorelli.nl

  • Hearing Corelli's voice with Caruso's makes it clear why

Caruso has always been king of the tenors. The voice

    is much richer than Corelli's.

  • "Bavarian jungle" - Du traust Dich was!!! - Grüße

  • @Stoltapaura Benissimo--sounds good to me caro J :-))

  • @sospello O.k. Proposal next time, you make a delicious cake and coffee on the porch, I'll personally bring Francone's CD's to you and "the cat is in the bag" more it will cost no more . And to end-celebrate, we sing together in duet "O soave fanciulla".

  • @Stoltapaura Who knows why the amount--but I imagine the book is a heavy one and Italian postal prices to the US seem to be higher than for other countries in Europe. Also I imagine the shop is charging for "handling fees". Anyway, it is supposed to arrive in about a week to 10 days, so that is good enough shipping time from Italy :-)

  • @sospello

WAAAA???Excuse me but since I fall on my fat ass! For example, I have bought from the United States, all Corelli's Bohéme's, all of Macbeth's (in short, a huge amount), and much more. I paid from U.S.via Frankfurt German Customs, to me in the "Bavarian jungle" a peanuts only $ 12.48. These were only seven days but note: "Customs Ceclaration CN 22"

  • @Stoltapaura I just used the shop at La Scala since I have an account. But the shipping is 53 euros--as they would say in my part of the US--that's highway robbery! But I would like to have the book now rather than have to hunt for it later.

  • @sospello

Dear L.; that's right! Where have you ordered? I have my George F. Burr (GB)

Now I'm curious, how much are the shipping costs to U.S. (without oil pollution along your unique biotopes)

    Jay

  • @Stoltapaura I think there must be one 5 too many--I just ordered and the price quoted was 48 Euros plus shipping cost to the US (more than the price of the book, but after all, it's Francone:-))

  • @Musikkristin

Liebe G. wo hast Du denn den Preis her? Hast Dein PC Cinemascope-Auflösung??

Das Buch kostet z.B. La Scala-Shop ;Milano incl.Versand nach Deutschland 68;--€

    Servus nach Mchn........:-)
