A bird wandered into our yard, and after about two hours of no sign of parents, I started taking care of it. Not fun. Feeding every 14-20 minutes and constant care. I'm wondering how I'm going to teach it to fear dogs and cats which are abundant in this area. There is one mother bird (I don't think it's the same one) that teaches by example. I obviously can't quite do that, but I have to think of something if it survives that long.

What should I have done? Let the bird starve right outside our house? Kill it and put it out of it's misery?

What should I do now? I'm on an island with a Natural Reserve, but no sanctuaries. The nearest is in São Paulo, and I don't know when will be the next time I can go. Should I continue to research and find or make the correct equipment to raise this thing and/or continue finding a bird willing to help me with it? Should I put it out of it's misery? Should I name it? It's chances of surviving are probably slim, and it is a wild animal. If yes, what should I name it? If I continue, my life will have to rotate around this bird probably well after it's an adult, and it could die at any time. I will have to make it scared of humans and the animals in the area. I will have no life.

I will continue to try and get another bird to adopt it, since we have so many that come to our house to feed.

Like I said, if you are in the States (and other countries), you need federal and State permits. Here are a few sites that can help you out (If you care, leave it there!):

Hmm, another really good site is:

I'm going to have to switch to more dry foods using chopsticks, due to advice... We'll see how that goes.

hope it works out. Not easy with a wild bird. I have a domesticated bird now, and it's much easier.

If you are positive the parents aren't feeding it anymore, then you might need to get more information on the type if you can at this point. Maybe ask a local vet. Just realize that it's wild and even with all your care may still not survive. Other than that, you could just make sure you get enough vitamins to it and that you give it a good life while you can. Teaching it to relive in the wild is near impossible as they are usually very small.

It could've hit its head? Idk but erm it was running round in circles, that normally indicates hitting its head

I found a bird in egg on the ground and took him in, I've had him for a few days now and he's hatched and likes to move around. Your right, it's hard work taking care of it.
