@greeny202a I'm from the US. My father is from Jamaica, though, so I consider myself Jamaican American. As far as styles of martial arts go, I have been practicing Capoeira since 2001

@wildmantis1 Yes there's nothing wrong with opposite opinions ha ha. I'm from Manchester which is in the North of England. My sport was Shukokai Karate but bit long in the tooth these days. Hows about you?
-
@greeny202a Well, all the same, I'm glad we see where each other is coming from on both sides of the debate. So you're from the UK, you mentioned earlier. What part?
-
@juanmanuelcoria79 Bodidharma was already savvy to forms of martial arts already in existence in India. But he existed long AFTER the kingdoms in Kemet. Even so, any nation with a military HAS to have some martial understanding of fighting. Even in southeast Asia, the people where savvy to forms of fighting before kung fu arrived. Every culture that has had any longstanding conflict with another, will more than likely develop a martial art.

@wildmantis1 Oh sure I agree 100% there 4000 years ago Egyptians would have of course been North African Somalids/Berbers and not 90% Arab like today but then again they would not have been anything like the 2 black West Africans in this video, these guys are from about 5000 miles further West LOL
-
@greeny202a And for the record, the peoples in Kemet didn't look the same then as they do now. The wall reliefs and even the Great Sphinx prove it!
-
@wildmantis1 True yes I never thought about it that way I suppose I agree. I wasn't actually chastising them for not being Egyptians really just if they are obviously West African why do they not research and practice arts from that region. But in the end I guess your right if they want to learn Egyptian fighting techniques then so be it as long as they are authentic of course.
-
@greeny202a Well at the end of it all, I really think that chastising these men for exploring martial arts from anywhere in Africa is ignorant if you are basing your argument solely on the fact that they don't "look" like they are from that region. That's like saying, it's idiotic for an Indonesian to learn Kung Fu, he should be learning Silat, instead. Or, people in southern China should be learning Hung Gar. They are ALL great arts, but whoever wants to learn, should be able to learn.

@wildmantis1 There is nothing wrong with having East African descent but if you are African American there is a 99.9% chance you are West Affrican in which case there is very, very little chance of you being related to anyone from Egypt or anyone in North or East Africa for that matter, its something like a white person from Australia coming to Europe and claiming to be descended from Ancient Rome but having a name like O'Reilly... It may cause you embarrassment later on with DNA tests and such.
-
@greeny202a Well, thank you for the heads up about the different fighting techniques and I will definitely look that up. However, like I said above, it's all about reconnecting with that identity and there is more available information associated with Egypt than with other places in the continent, and even then, it's still pretty fresh, as far as the martial arts community is concerned, even though it's one of the oldest known. Now, why is having any descent from the horn of Africa wrong?
Would you accept an invitation to attend or atleast interview one of the Afrikan Martial Science Elders are featured on my site.... We have training camps all year long. What section of the country is this school/instructor teaching? Peace and Blessings Askari

Where a martial art is descended from is irrelevant, where it is developed is the important part. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is developed from ne-waza of Judo. It is not praised as a Japanese martial art, it is a Brazilian martial art.

@DotKuroBPM Cause cure and prevention, to totally cure a illness one must know cause of it, to prevent any re-ocurrence. Leaves stand high because of its banches and a tunk of a tree is only strong as its roots, knowing the pass can give you a better out look of the future. Its not irrelevant as you say.

@consciouscafe1 You're comparing martial arts history to curing diseases? Are you being serious?
DotKuroBPM 1 year ago
@DotKuroBPM You totally miss the point.
