LA's First International Waacking/Punking Festival October 29-31th, 2010 The
purpose of this event is to preserve, promote, unify and develop the Waacking
community by bringing together legends, pioneers, master practitioners and
enthusiasts of all levels for a 3-day festival in Los Angeles, October 29th-31th.
Los Angeles is a mecca of street dance, home of three major street dance styles: Locking, Waacking, and Popping.

Waacking is the second largest street dance style to come out of Los Angeles; thus, it makes perfect sense to fashion an event of this caliber in LA so that we can build upon and expand such a valuable dance community. Waacking has permeated street dance practice spots and mainstream culture for years now.

For example, shows such as America's Best Dance Crew showcased dance crews that perform Waacking choreography; but, oftentimes the dancers are unaware of the true history of the style, or readily refer to it as a separate street dance style altogether. Step Up 3D also displayed Waacking choreography, but the dance style was misnamed in the movie.

Los Angeles street dancers and professional dancers alike are hungry for more Waacking events and greater knowledge of the style; adding a Waacking competition to dance battles is not enough! This is the first event in Los Angeles devoted specifically to educating and training dancers in the style of Waacking/Punking with a spicy addition of it's cousin, Vogue!

  • These styles of dancing could be seen on the silver screen for decades, as early as the 1930's young teenage girls made up the majority of the dancers cast in major motion pictures. In the 50's you have Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and even later you have "West Side Story". Lady Gaga and Beyonce, these girls are 80's year late. See Fritz Lang's Metropolis. You can search youtube for Metropolis Dance Scene.

  • Would you care to tell me the title and artist of the song used in this video please? =) I'd really appreciate it, thanks!
