I am an American who loves Lee. It is a shame that the Americans treated who so bad. That is the one down side of American sports. We treat our athletes over here like kings and most of the sporting events like baseball and football are just a bunch of drunk fans being crazy. That however is not how they should conduct themselves while attending a gentleman game like golf.

To all that are trying to compare the European fans with the American fans in 2008. It's ok to cheer when the opposing side hits a bad shot. That's natural if it means your man is going to take the hole. What Lee Westwood is referring to is abuse from fans. That's very different. I've never heard a bad word said about European fans in that respect. Cheering when the opposition hits a bad shot is very different to shouting abuse. Some Americans don't know the difference sadly!

@huskersfan1515 Actually theyre showing old ryder cups on tv all week so i did just see it, your not really furthering your argument there, there is clear eveidence that american fans have used nasty tactics in the past and if you have been watching the action this weekend you just cant say that europeans have been doing the same? @bod1313 I honestly doubt you just happened to pop in the 04' ryder cup and watch every little thing that happened. Face it when the Euro's lose they feel the need to stick their nose in the air and call the American fans classless. Its poor sportsmanship, You cant lose without taking personal attacks. Its funny nothing was said it at Oakland hills because the Euro's kicked ass but when America wins on US soil its " USA fans were harassing me all week" ......... RIGHT i dont by it for a minute.

@huskersfan1515 well if you watch oakland hills back as i just did youll find the americans aren't hostile at all and it is a very different atmosphere to valhalla and brookline, it seems you cant win without your pricks in the crowd. hes not making this up. Torrance commented after the ryder cup in brookline that monty couldnt take his yardages when he was in the rough, he had to work it out on the fairway and then go in and play the shots, due to the abuse he was getting in the crowd. Disgrace

@bod1313 When America wins Europe blames everything on American fans.. but when they are kicking ass its ok. ( oakland hills 04') nobody from Europe was complaining then and im sure American fans were acting the same. Its poor sportmanship and bitterness which makes me hate the Euro's, the fans this the fans that, face it you lost quit your bitching. If you are going to do this classless bullshit, then you need to look at sergio and ballestoros dancing as when USA miss there putts.

@mkam11 I think youll find european fans respect the etiquette of the game enough to know that you dont heckle or abuse opposition, just be positive towards your own team. I have been to two ryder cups and i can assure you there was no heckling. American fans have no class.
