In 1989 the IHL Muskegon Lumberjacks played against the Soviets (Sokol Kiev) during an exhibition hockey game in Muskegon. The Soviets won 6 to 5. With less than a minute the Lumberjacks trailing 6 to 4 pulled their goalie. Dave Michayluk would score for the Jacks on a pass from Scott Gruhl. Michayluk would end up as the IHL's all-time goal scorer with 547 and Gruhl would be second with 532 goals. Michayluk was also a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins 1992 Stanley Cup team. In this game Alexei Zhitnik would play for the Soviets. He would later star with the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL.
