After the last greyhound race everyone who could, took a run (the wrong way!) around the track on the Stows closing night. An invasion you will never see again there... and enjoyable end to Walthamstows Greyhound Stadium after 75 years.
In 1999 I was 20-something tourist from California (there to meet a girl I met over the Internet). I slept in Epping Forest in a tent and I saw all of London. Everything but the Greyhoud Race Track. On my last night in London, after I took the girl home, I walked around and turned to look up. There was the stadium! The lights were shining. It was like a movie. I went back to my tent, checked it off my list. Mission Accomplished.
By the way my old uncle once ran on the track after a night on the sauce and got a ban.. All he wanted was to chase along his Cherry that lost him his shirt n fare home.. Not to worry tho as the local plod helped him out with a night in the nick and a cup of tea in the morning... Oh and a £50 fine... Thats the kind of history the Stow brought people...
Well living in The Stow for many years i went over this grand old track and got pissed in Chans... Lots me dosh n got off with some old strumpet from Loughton/buckhurst hill/debden Or if they were really dodgy.. Deepest darkest Essex IE.. THE NARM... Well Adios to the old girl n A LAST RING OF THE STARTERS BELL.. 6-4 THRU THE CARD... WHOLLOP....
