Haven't felt like making a video in quite some time, but with the recent fervour over Dragon Age 2 I decided to take a look back at first Dragon Age: Origins, then the series that inspired it. This is the result, hope you enjoy. If you've any suggests for what I might do next, lemme know.

Not quite happy with the youtube quality. Seems much darker than it should be on my monitor, and there are a few annoying quirks. Ah Well!

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are available from Good Old Games (Google it!)

Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening are available all over the place.

Dragon Age 2 will be out in a few days. Oughta be grand!

I'm not going to lie, I sometimes play this video in the background just to listen to the music.

  • I'm a sucker for a BG vs DA debate. I think that it's fine to remember how you felt the first time you played BG all those many moons ago, but don't lose sight of how great DA is. The one thing I like to tell people about Baldurs Gate is that the backgrounds are handpainted which makes that game even classier. A youtube comment can't sum up what I want to say about these games. I think that BG purists who hate DA are idiots, and I think people who won't give BG a serious go are also idiots.

  • Baldurs Gate II is the best game from Bioware and ive played em all (apart from Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2). Dragon Age is nowhere NEAR the level of greatness of BG II.

  • You may have only made 9 video's, but this was brilliant! I have to say though, as a 20 year PC gamer, that The Baldur's Gate series is Apocalypse Now compared with Dragon Age's Mary Poppins!

Now you need to do a Morrowind versus Skyrim comparison to show what people are missing!

  • My experience with these two games is interesting. I never played a D&D type game before Dragon Age and I got bored with it after an hour. I then moved on to Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale and absolutely fell in love with the Infinity Engine. Something about Dragon Age to me feels very generic, I might not like the engine or the fact that I played in on the xbox 360, but I could not get into Dragon Age and still can't.

  • Baldur's Gate is still better.

  • Dragon Age: Origins was about a quarter the size of Baldur's Gate 2, with far less exploration. In DA:O All the sidequests were mercenary work, the levels were on rails and not as large as they looked. The plot was barely there, more a string of events. Still a good game though, I'd give it 7/10 and BG2 a 9/10. It just dissapointed me because the comparisons between the two games got my hopes too high. Both games are full of bugs and cheap ways to kill dragons, though. :P

  • DA is a modern revamped version of Baldur's Gate with a whole new world and plot. Lets not forget that Baldur's Gate is part of the Forgotten Realms universe while DA is something totally new and original. Both are great, but cherish and respect the predecessors of epic gaming

  • To me Dragon Age feels like a completely dumbed down version of Baldur's Gate. The magic system I felt was lacking, battles were cumbersome, and there was no real strategy involved despite have nearly the same combat system as Baldur's Gate. I appreciate what Bioware tried to do with DA but I guess it didn't really hit the spot with me. I played Dragon Age probably about a year ago and Baldur's Gate 2 for the first time two years ago. I consider it to be my favorite game of all time.

  • I consider myself to be a BG "purist" but I'm not gonna rip on DA. DA is a much MUCH more evolved version of BG, I sometimes think almost "too" evolved in the sense that it is hard even for me sometimes to actually see the common points between the two. But also in that sense it's a different game. So there really is no purpose in attacking DA or any game for that matter, simply because "it's not BG". By the way DA is a great game too, it's just that it doesn't make me feel like BG managed to do

  • @toonuraccoon exactly all the bg fans raging on da almost made me not want to play bg, hopefully i ended up playing it.

  • To be honest, I think Dragon Age Origins is more like knights of the old republic rather than Baldur's Gate
