Thanks you are a life saver!I am fairly new to linux and was looking for a alternative to adobe premiere.Thank you for your hard work on these videos!I was able to use gimp to replace Photoshop, and think I have found a replacement for premiere.=)

@THE16THPHANTOM: Well, I haven't used Cinelerra for about 2 years, and I never did anything in HD with it. But, rendering speed depends on a lot of things. Effects added to the video can slow things down a lot. Different codecs will compress at different speeds. But, I would say that 40 minutes to render 20 minutes of HD video isn't all that slow. But once again, there are a lot of factors.

@metalx1000 Major downside: OpenShot has a very simplified UI as compared with Cinelerra, same for the range of functions. But at least i can feed it my AVCHD files and other media :)
what if both arms were intact..;) Anyway good tutorial... I do agree that kdenlive installs a lot of bloat with it.

@murtazaiqbal1: True, if you are not using KDE already Kdenlive installs a lot of stuff. But, I do prefer Kdenlive over Cinelerra. I haven't used Cinelerra in about 2 year (about the time I made this video). So, maybe Cinlerra has gotten better since I last tried it. It's good for what it is, but I think it need a bit more. Of course Kdenlive needs more too. But, it's improved so much over the last 2 year and I expect it to continue too.

@SlaptMan: I don't use Cinelerra any more. I really love Kdenlive. But, make sure you get the newest version of Kdenlive. it's version 0.8.x. I think the repose are still holding 0.7.x. and 0.7.x crashes a lot. It's still in early development, but is pretty stable and has lots of features.

need lots of CPU power to render videos. is there a faster way to render video? i render 1920x1080 videos. it takes about 40 minutes to render 20 minute video.

@THE16THPHANTOM: Just be glad you aren't doing 3D rendering. You could spend 40 hours rendering 20 seconds of video.
