The Bergisel is Innsbruck's Olympic ski jump that was used when this city hosted the Winter games in 1964 and again in 1976. The original one that was used in the Olympics was demolished in 2000 to make room for this new version that was designed to look much like the original.

For the best view of the jump itself, we climb the steps to the Olympic rings under the dishes that held the Olympic flame, where Dorothy Hamill and a host of others who brought home the gold are honored.

We take the funicular and an elevator to get to the top of the ski jump. As we ride the funicular, we can imaging speeding down the ramp and flying into the air like so many who competed for the gold back in 1964 and 1976.
