  • The recording is called SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS on HighBridge Classic Audio. Simon Callow reads the entire sonnet sequence.

  • Could you tell me what cd that you have with Simon Callow's reading of Shakespear's voice? he has a great voice.

  • I love Simon Callow's voice and his reading of the sonnets is a cd that I often listen to as I prepare for slumber -- & then my dreams speak in Shakespeare, which is divine. But I cannot applaud the re-ordering of the sonnets so as to present the "true" story of the drama they supposedly present, the revelation of biography. This is like worshiping a god in one's own image, a deity whose biography one hath invented. That is certainly nonsense.

  • Dear me,

re - read my comment, and think about what I write, not turn it into something I did not actually write.

And no, nowhere in the sonnets is a 'dark lady' mentioned: it might be an idea for you to actually read them.

And of course, when you are performing the Sonnets, you should have a person in mind (and by the way, I have been an actor, yes).

  • You're obviously not an actor. The Dark Lady MUST exist for the person speaking the sonnets or they are flat, academic, and less vital.

  • This is such grotesque nonsense! It would be a good idea for Callow to read something about the Sonnets. Just for starters; the 'Dark Lady' of the Sonnets does not exist; the woman Shakespeare talks about is NEVER referred to in that way.
