you are right. But you are wrong: Tkd WTF(this is the federation of this style of TKD, the olympic one) is not a martial art. It's just a sport and so the people practing it are not martials artist. Sorry for my english.

All martial arts are preparing you for real life self defense situations. It is the fighters job to determine what is the art of TKD and what is the practical self defense aspects of the martial art.

Serkan Yilmaz did TKD before competing in K-1 and embarassing people. And Park yong soo is proving TKD is capable of standing up to k-1 fighters.

HA your funny. They wear the gear because no one can take TKD kicks without it and not fall down every few seconds. Search Serkan Yilmaz and watch how much people get put down by backkicks and other TKD techniques

O.O This is the first time I've seen JAPANESE people do Tae Kwon Do. I've heard of the TKD Japanese federation (something like that) but I never seen anyone actually in it.

You've gotta love Dojonousuke Mishima and his little dance - he's such a character.
Also, Dojonousuke does pretty well in this WTF match (IMHO) and he's not even a fighter known for his standup. It was a fun match to watch - and although I don't know the guy in the red, I don't doubt that Mishima would armbar him is like eight seconds in an MMA match.
Still, fun to watch, good fight! Makes me want to try to box my way through a WTF tourney, just to see ; )
