This is one common way I instruct patients who have patellofemoral syndrome or anterior knee pain tape their knee. You need to have the white CoverRoll or Hypafix tape and the brown Leukotape.

It is recommended that you first consult with your healthcare professional before performing the activities in this video as it may not be appropriate for your particular diagnosis or pain.

  • Is there any alternate tape that I could use instead of that white tape. I bought that same white tape from my physical therapist, but I ran out and can't find any in the stores around my house. Do you think KT athletic tape would work?

  • @jennaaerial The white tape needs to be able to adhere well. I would advise ordering it online as you won't find it in a local drugstore. Search this online: Cover-Roll® Stretch Tape 2"

  • Is it okay for me to apply the leukotape straight onto the skin, and use it only for 1-3 hrs?

  • @stayseerae

    Sounds really magical!

I've tried the taping, but it doesnt seem to have to effect AT ALL.

My kneecap pulls right thru it all.. My VMO is tho really small compared to the Vastus laterial muscle.

I use my foam roller everday and i use all kind of strenght exercises.. and my VMO is really getting bigger.. and the problem seem to have degresed alittle bit - wich is wonderful tho - but i still got some grinding - and i want it gone!

  • @Denrarehund The taping is wonderful! I haven't done it recently, but it honestly seems like it has somehow put my knee back on track, even with the limited amount of taping I have done! This summer, while taping, I ran for the first time in 11 years!! I cried when I got home because I was so happy! I plan to tape and rehab it this winter to get my muscles built up and see how it's doing by spring and maybe I'll be able to run again, but longer distance. Let me know how it goes for you! GL! :)

    Hey stayseerae !

it almost made me cry, reading ur comment! - am happy that it worked for u

am suffering from same pain and grinding as u mentioned, but tho, the pain is all gone - i got the grinding noise left.

am gonna try this method - god i hope it works!

btw, how is it going with ur knee's today?

    hoping to hear from you!

  • I just had patella retinacular repair surgery on my left knee a few months ago & was pretty much pain free up until I returned to work & am having to tape my knee again. Im using Kinesio tape but where can I get the white tape?

  • After doing this taping technique, my knee pain was relieved. I WAS able to continue my physical activity with the tape and it did not cause any pain. But would you recommend me to do physical activity if i don't feel any pain with the tape on ?

  • @Propagandawar23 Ah, I see. I'm actually working on getting good braces such as CTis. But I don't know yet if my insurance will pay for it (can't afford myself :( ) and if it will be allowed to wear at competitions.

  • @Cachorrinho1907 Forgot to mention do it to both sides while rolling. I ended up putting to much emphasis on the one good knee. Both of mine happened in half guard. One was forced out the other directly my own careless fault. but with tape and braces (Good ones not just a neoprene slip on) it should send off to your brain to treat both equally.

  • @Propagandawar23 Thank you very much for the advice!

  • @Cachorrinho1907 I dislocated both of mine During BJJ. I have floaters. Im using the verticle taping with a Mcdavid level II Ligament brace. See if it helps.
